Sustainability is a critical part of Whistler's vision. The vision calls for economic, social and environmental sustainability each of which is only achievable if Whistler diversifies its economic base, develops as a true learning community and manages its rich environment intelligently. To accomplish this vision Whistler has created "Whistler 2020 – Moving to a Sustainable Future". Whistler U offers the opportunity to meet many of the objectives outlined in the document. Whistler U diversifies the economic base while offering the potential for anchoring the move to a true learning community. It is a wealth producing environmentally friendly industry that assists with the social sustainability of the community.
